Jaber Estate Winery

A Dream Come True

Mr. Jaber—pronounced JAY-burr—is a retired Mexican businessman who is finally living his dream of a successful winery on a plot of land he bought decades ago.

An entirely hands-on owner, Jaber fills the role of chemist, carefully mixing aggregates and enzymes into the newly crushed grapes to control the fermentation process and improve the wine’s taste and aroma.

The winery just completed its second year of harvesting red and white grapes, which will eventually result in 25,000 bottles of wine ready for sale to the public. Some 9,500 bottles were harvested from last year’s crop, and Mr. Jaber calculates he’ll bottle another 15,500 this year.

Jaber’s next step is marketing his newly labeled Jaber Estate Winery vino—a dream finally come true. Help us welcome our newest exciting member to the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce.

Located on Western Road in Mission is Jaber’s dream in the making. Thirty years ago, he wanted to grow grapes on his land, but was told he was too crazy to do so. So instead, he began a dairy farm. It was not till three years ago that he heard that others had been successfully growing grapes in the Valley.

At that point, Jaber decided to start his vineyard.

Sprawled along his land are three acres of white grapes and five acres of black Spanish grapes. The first harvest is housed in three large fermentation chambers located in the cool warehouse with plenty of plans for expansion as his vineyard grows.

“This is my first time doing this,” Jaber said proudly as he is living his lifelong dream. Jaber is involved in the entire wine making process starting from growing the plant, harvesting, fermenting and bottling it. Jaber expects to have his first tasting for the white wine in October. The red wine, however, will take longer to finish. However, Jaber’s dream is only beginning to unfurl.

“My dream,” he explained, “is to create a place where people can escape from the city and enjoy the scenery, wine, and music. I want this to be a place for special events, like concerts, barbeques, or weddings.” He has plans to build a beautiful gazebo where couples can join in their wedding vows in the magic of the Jaber Estate Winery.

A place to make beautiful memories.
